About The Craft of Soloing
In the Craft of Soloing, you will discover how to create more interesting solos.
Learning what scales and notes can be used for soloing is only the beginning, The Craft Of Soloing teaches us how we can take that information and turn it into an artistic musical expression.
The course begins with a primer on thinking about Music as a Language. From there we look at how to discover Motifs, the musical ideas that make up the themes in a solo. We then look at how to Develop Motifs Melodically and Rhythmically, which can be used to create a sense of coherence throughout a solo.
We will then discuss some Practicing Tips as well as Common Pitfalls that lead to uninteresting solos. Finally we will Put It All Together as I break down an entire solo, looking at how we can incorporate everything this course teaches in a practical setting.
I've included 25 studio-quality backing tracks to give you plenty of songs to work out the concepts and ideas you ill be equipped with!

How much experience do I need for the courses?
This course is aimed at the guitarist who has spent some time learning scales and theory but is having trouble turning that information into music. However, since these are broader elements of musical philosophy, they can be used by the guitar player who is just beginning to solo as well as the advanced player who wants to think of music in a deeper way. If you are brand new to soloing there is an additional Pentatonic Primer in the documents which provides a brief look at a scale that you can use to implement the ideas taught in this course. To get the most out of The Craft Of Soloing, the information taught in The Rudiments and Beyond The Basics will be helpful. However, this is not a music theory course and can be consumed without any background in music theory.
Is there a certain genre that these courses work best for?
What I teach is music theory and how it applies to guitar. This is not genre specific though classical musicians look at these things slightly differently than the rest.
