Unlock The Major and Minor Pentatonic Scale
In this mini course we look at how the major and minor pentatonic scales work and how we can use them.
We start off by looking at the theory behind these scales, how they are derived and why they work. From there we look at the shapes we use to incorporate them across the guitar neck. Next is a lesson on how these scales work with modes and finally we look at exercises we can use to master these scales.
The lessons are accompanied by documentation, they are animated and the goal is that you will walk away with a strong understanding of pentatonic scales.

Frequently Asked Questions
When does the course start and finish?
The course starts now and never ends! It is a completely self-paced online course - you decide when you start and when you finish.
How long do I have access to the course?
After enrolling for a one-time payment, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
What if I am unhappy with the course?
If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, send an email to [email protected]
How much experience do I need for the courses?
I would consider this a beginner course, however, I would strongly encourage any prospective students to first take my course The Rudiments. That course lays out the basic terminology and ideas I use to teach music.
Is there a certain genre that these courses work best for?
What I teach is music theory and how it applies to guitar. This is not genre specific though classical musicians look at these things slightly differently than the rest.
Lots of guitarists offer courses, why should I get yours?
There are lots of options out there, what makes each course unique is the person teaching them. If you enjoy learning from me on YouTube, you will enjoy these courses. Especially since the animating in my courses was outsourced and is beyond anything I could do on my own.
Will I learn to solo with this course?
The goal of this course is not to teach soloing but rather to offer an in depth examination of the pentatonic scale. Having done so, you will have a strong understanding of a tool you can use for soloing. An analogy would be: this course teaches you the proper technique for using a hammer, a saw and wrench. I'm not teaching you how to build a shed, but by learning how to use these tools you are well equipped with the skills that will make shed building easier. Stay tuned though, there will be courses in the near future that dive specifically into soloing.
Is this course as long as your other courses?
No, this is a mini course, typically the other courses are around 10 lessons this one is 5 shorter lessons.
I can already play the pentatonic scale, do I need this?
This course will teach you everything you need to know about the pentatonic scales. In it I examine where the scales are derived from, the difference between major and minor pentatonics, how to play them in all the keys across the guitar neck, how they work with modes and exercises to practice them. Being able to simply play all 5 inversions would make up about 25% of what I teach here.
What if I play an instrument besides guitar?
Of all the other instruments, this information will be easiest to transfer to bass. The theory side of things (which makes up about half of this course) is universally applicable to all instruments. However, I demonstrate how to use this theory specifically on guitar.
